Fine motor activities
This is the child’s ability to use their small muscles, specifically hands and fingers, to pick up small objects, hold a spoon, turn pages in a book, or use a crayon to draw. Fine motor skills are involved in smaller movements that occur in the wrists, hands, fingers, feet and toes. They involve smaller actions such as picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing carefully, and even blinking. The lesson plans have activities like tearing, pasting and squeezing and the worksheets have many activities for children to hone their fine motor development. These motor skills work together to provide coordination for:
Fine Motor Development Milestones
Ages 1.5-2.5
- builds block tower
- scribbles on paper
- eats with a spoon
- turns one page of a book at a time
- holds crayon with fingertips and thumb (pincer grasp).
- Holds a thick crayon in the palm
- Imitates & copies a vertical line
- Imitates a horizontal line
- Hand preference usually obvious
- Does 3-piece puzzle of something familiar
- Turn pages singly
- Screws and unscrews a jar lid
- Threads shoelace through large hole.
